Development of a concept for a wind energy test site in mountainous and complex terrain

Picture: ZSW | David Arzt

The aim of the project is to design a southern German wind energy test field in mountainous and complex terrain. In addition to the basic concept development, this also includes the search for a suitable location in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Based on the concept, a test site with two research wind turbines of the 750 kilowatt class and four meteorological measuring masts is to be realized at a location in southern Germany at the end of the project. The test site developed in the project takes into account all topics relevant to future wind energy research and combines their requirements in a common concept. The technical equipment of the test site will be designed in such a way that it can ideally serve the preparation, testing and validation of new technologies with regard to materials, construction methods, aerodynamics, load control, noise reduction, production technology, operational management, measurement technology and monitoring of wind turbines. The concept should also take into account a possible expansion of the test site to investigate the storage and grid integration of other electrical, renewable energies.
